Keza Designs

Hand made eco-friendly paper bead jewelry

Home

Keza Designs was created by myself, Madeleine in March of 2013. My jewelry is eco-friendly as it is made from recycled magazines.  Each paper bead is cut from old magazines, posters, wrapping paper, newspapers, piano books etc. I hand roll the beads, glue them and then coat them in a non-toxic glaze from protection. The beads are matched with other glass, stone or wooden beads to create beautiful, unique pieces of jewelry.

I first learned about paper beads in 2009 when I visited Kigali, Rwanda where I volunteered with the Kinamba Project. The women’s group involved in this organization were learning to art of paper bead jewelry and taught me how to make them. Ever since, I have been addicted to making paper beads. The word “Keza” is one of the few words I learned during my short time in Rwanda and means “beautiful” in Kinyarwanda.

Recently I moved out of the basement and into the world with my jewelry making by becoming a vendor at various markets in my hometown of Victoria, BC and in Montreal. Here I have had great success interacting with market go-ers and being able to share my love of paper beads.
